Are breastfeeding Silver Cups Effective?

Studies show that using silver breastfeeding cups can help treat and prevent problems arising from breastfeeding due to nipple fissures (cracks in the nipples). The study focused on the treatment of nipple fissure in lactating women and its local tolerability, compared with the standard of care for nipple fissure treatment during breastfeeding.

How do silver cups work when breastfeeding?

Silver’s association with anti-bacterial properties has long been established. The ancient Phoenicians knew enough to keep water, wine and vinegar in silver vessels to ensure freshness. It is only recently, however, that scientists have discovered why silver works. Quite simply, silver interrupts the bacteria cell’s ability to form the chemical bonds essential to its survival. These bonds produce the cell’s physical structure so when bacteria meet silver it literally falls apart. 1

The use of silver in wound management can be traced back to the 18th century, during which silver nitrate (AgNO3) was used in the treatment of ulcers. The antimicrobial activity of the silver ions was first identified in the 19th century, and colloidal silver was accepted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as being effective for wound management in the 1920s. However, after the introduction of penicillin in the 1940s, antibiotics became the standard treatment for bacterial infections and the use of silver diminished.

• Apply the Breast Angel Silverette Healing Cup directly onto the nipple - like a cupping glass.
• Place a Breast Pad over the Breast Angel Silverette Healing Cup.
• Your nursing bra will then hold everything in place.
• Remove Breast Angel Silverette Healing Cup and rinse nipple before each nursing session.

• How to Clean: Breast Angels – Silverette Cups should be cleaned twice a day using Bicarbonate of Soda and a small amount of cold water. Make a paste using a tablespoon of Bicarbonate Soda mixed with a small amount of cold water Simply rub the Bicarbonate of Soda mix on the Breast Angels Silverette Cups and rinse. Bicarbonate of Soda is widely available and you should be able to find it in the baking section of your nearest supermarket.

Nipples Best Friend

I had heard of the benefits of Silver healing cups when I was pregnant with my twins from other moms of twins so decided I had to give them a go, and I'm so grateful I did. I used them since the day my twins were born, they're now 5 weeks, and I haven't had a moment of pain which is a far cry from when I had my daughter 7 years ago and sadly didn't know of Silver healing cups then. Highly recommend them to any breastfeeding/pregnant and hoping to breastfeed mom's, you won't regret it.

Helped a lot

I bought these on the recommendation from my midwife. I was suffering a lot of pain while breastfeeding as my baby had tongue tie and it wasn't spotted for over a week. By the time it was diagnosed I was in agony!! I was really impressed with the quick delivery as I did need them urgently!

They were very comfortable to wear and definitely helped heal my nipples but they were visible through my clothing and I accidentally wore them without breast pads which made a big mess! I would recommend them to a friend although I would advise that you wear breast pads as well.
